In 2013, Goodwill Southern California (GSC) embarked on an ambitious endeavor to advance our mission impact in the Atwater Village /Glassell Park community. With collaborative funding from charitable organizations, including a generous gift of $50,000 from the S. Mark Taper Foundation, GSC renovated a 135,000 square foot empty building to create our new Community Enrichment Center at Fletcher Square, providing programs and services to meet the needs of local community members, veterans, and at-risk youth in the area of employment.
Opened in May 2014, the Goodwill’s Community Enrichment Center at Fletcher Square houses a flagship retail store, an outlet store, and a donation center, as well as back-of-house facilities for transportation and production. The program space includes a Career Resource Center with on-site job search services for all job seekers, as well as a veteran hub, with employment services for unemployed and / or homeless veterans. Several conference rooms for the community and co-located collaborative partners (Big Brothers Big Sisters LA and ANEW), complete the community enrichment center. We also host a local Farmer’s Market every Saturday, a monthly food pantry, and numerous community activities. The Community Enrichment Center at Fletcher Square is a robust, community-based operation that serves over a thousand community residents and military veterans annually.
