Goodwill Southern California offers a variety of work and skills training opportunities to individuals with a diagnosed disability referred by sources like the Department of Rehabilitation and Regional Center. Work Activity Program
The Work Activity Program of Goodwill Southern California’s Workforce & Career Development department is designed to assist clients with developmental and other disabilities to develop good work habits and skill sets with the eventual goal of successful placement and integration into a job in the community. It is designed to serve both Habilitation and non-Habilitation clients referred by the Regional Center system and the California State Department of Rehabilitation.
Supported Employment
Supported Employment is a program designed to provide competitive work opportunities for adults with disabilities and other barriers to employment in integrated individual as well as group work settings so that they may achieve their highest level of personal and economic independence. All participants are provided services which include job search, job preparation, and job coaching which is available for all regional center clients as long as the client is employed. Some services may be time limited depending on the referral source and authorization provided.
Employment Services
Employment Services is a program designed to assist adults with disabilities and other barriers to employment to prepare for, obtain, and maintain work in the community so that they may achieve their highest level of personal and economic independence. All participants are provided services which include job preparation (Job Club), job search and placement, and job coaching as needed and approved. Services are time limited and must be provided within parameters set by the California State Department of Rehabilitation authorization for services.
Personal, Vocational, Social Adjustment Program
The Personal, Vocational and Social Adjustment Program is a series of classes designed to improve your ability to work independently by providing training in behaviors and personal social skills essential to success in the workplace. Individual training is used to address barriers to employment such as interpersonal and communication skills, dress and grooming skills, organizational skills and problem solving skills. There are 25 classes in all to choose from.
Situational Assessment
The purpose of the Situational Assessment is to determine skills, abilities, work behaviors and motivation as well as to identify barriers to employment. The Situational Assessment provides the opportunity for participants to experience actual work in their local community. You will get to work for a short while at a community business or within a Goodwill site. The business will be chosen based on your work goals and their availability. A Goodwill staff member, called an Assessor, will be with you on the job at all times to help you and to note how well you are doing.
Transitional Employment Program
The Transitional Employment Program is a program designed to provide competitive work opportunities for adults with disabilities so that they may achieve their highest level of personal and economic independence. This program provides job coaching to participants as they move from one set of duties to increasingly more difficult duties in community jobs. Services are time limited.
Ticket to Work Program
Goodwill Southern California is an approved Employment Network contracted with the Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work Program to provide return to work services to individuals receiving social security benefits. The purpose of this program is to offer you the support you need to increase both your ability to work and your earnings, and reduce your reliance on cash benefits.
